HISTORICAL ACTIVITIES [EA01WG]

Seeing and doing are powerful aids to learning. Specialising in the Viking, Saxon and Mediaeval period, the team wear period costumes and make use of the instruments and artefacts of the times.

They combine demonstrations with a range of hands-on activities including drama, dance, music and storytelling. Working with teachers, they will tailor the sessions to tie in with your own programmes of study This troupe brings history to life and we have the commendations to support it.

COMMUNITY, SOCIAL OR GROUP DANCE [EA02CD]

This activity focuses on Ceilidh dances of the British Isles, Europe and America and can be liked in to existing themes of study (e.g.. European week). It is activity based and suited to mixed or single gender groups. All dances can be differentiated to specific ages and abilities and sessions can show clear learning outcomes in line with Curriculum requirements. The Caller/Group Leader and Accordionist are former professional qualified teachers of over 50 years combined service and as such are well aware of the classroom management techniques required to manage groups of between 10 and 100 in a single session. The number of musicians can vary to suit your budget (Normally between 1 and 3), but when budget is limited the Accordion and Caller will suffice. The acts is fully amplified (with PAT certificates) and public liability and Risk documents are available on request. All session leaders and musicians are CRB checked.

This activity has proved immensely popular in both Junior and Secondary schools as part of the Curriculum and as an after school activity. It is frequently used as an option for activity week at the end of term and has been used for oversees students visits to give an insight into the cultural heritage of Britain.

The dances build communication, listening and teamwork and develop fitness and co-ordination. Most importantly of all, they are fun and encourage physical activity and interaction in a non-competitive environment.
